Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a common respiratory infection in infants. It often begins like a cold, then can lead to coughing, congestion, rapid breathing, and sometimes difficulty drinking. At PhysioUnion in Prilly, near Lausanne, we offer pediatric respiratory physiotherapy support when appropriate, with an approach tailored to the child and their clinical context.
What role for physiotherapy?
In the case of a first episode of acute bronchiolitis in an infant under 12 months of age, respiratory physiotherapy for bronchial clearance is no longer routinely recommended. Management is primarily based on medical evaluation, clinical monitoring, hydration, and clearing of the upper airways. However, respiratory physiotherapy may still be useful in certain specific pediatric contexts, particularly when there is an associated medical condition or a need for individualized respiratory support.

When to consult a doctor?
A medical evaluation is important if your baby has rapid breathing , a recession between the ribs, difficulty feeding , unusual tiredness , decreased intake, or if their general condition deteriorates. In very young infants, vigilance is even greater.
