Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique designed to stimulate lymph circulation. It is one of the techniques used by physiotherapists to combat lymphatic edema. This system is different from the venous system. First of all, it is an open system, there are lymphatic capillaries (initial vessels) that flow towards the large lymphatic vessels near the heart, there is no central pump and the transport of lymph is enabled by peristalsis and a system of valves. Its path is discontinuous thanks to the presence of lymph nodes. However, it is favored by the same factors as the vascular system, that is, respiratory movements, waves resulting from the heartbeat, and muscle pumping.
